Bhopal - An anomalous concoction of history
Traveling to a place like Bhopal, one would find it quite difficult not to be enamored by its unique blend of culture. The city traces its heritage all the way back to the 11th century.
Go fishing, or waterskiing in Bhojtal Bhopal has no shortage of lakes. Nicknamed “The City of Lakes”, itcomprises a number of manmade and natural lakes; the largest of which is Upper Lake, as it’s colloquially referred to, right in the heart of the city that sprung up around it. According to the World Wildlife Foundation, the lake holds tens of hundreds of birds, reptiles, fish, and insects. In addition to its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, it offers patrons a chance to partake in water sports such as kayaking and parasailing. The added bonus of the zoo on its shore means that it’s easy to lose an entire day exploring the area.
Marvel at the architectural prowess of Taj-ul-Masajid Bhopal was only a small village when the lake was built. Shortly after the death of Aurangzeb in the first decade of the seventeenth century, Bhopal became a state. It was during the reign of the Nawabsof Bhopal that the construction of the largest mosque in Indiawas commissioned. About 50 meters away fromthe eastern shore of Bhojtalsits the Taj-ul-Masajid. Literally translating to the “Crown of mosques”, one cannot say that it doesn’t live up to its name. Boasting towering minarets, a foreboding entrance gate, and intricately designed interiors, it’s difficult to find something of this scale or beauty elsewhere.
Become one with nature at Van Vihar National Park If being the second cleanest urban areas in the country wasn’t enough, Bhopal takes it a step further by being one of the greenest. VanVihar national park sits on the southern bank of Bhojtal, filling up over four and a half square kilometers greenery and natural wildlife. If up to the thrill, one can easily drive through the park to try and catch a glimpse of some of the its inhabitant. Being run under the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority, our favorite big cats are kept in near-natural enclosures for our safety as much as theirs.
